Today, I wanted to figure out what exactly a “pop out” is in baseball. I’ve heard the term a bunch, but I wasn’t 100% sure what it meant. So, I decided to do some digging and clear it up for myself, and thought, might as well share what I learned!
My Little Research Journey
First, I grabbed my phone and started googling. Just typed in “pop out baseball”.
I scrolled through a few different websites, and most of them basically said the same thing. It seemed pretty simple, actually.

From what I gathered, a pop out is basically when a batter hits the ball high up in the air, but it doesn’t go very * is an easy catch for a fielder.
Putting It All Together
So, after all that, here’s how I’d explain a pop out in my own words:
- It’s a fly ball, meaning the ball goes up in the air.
- It stays in the infield, most of time.
- It is easy to catch for fielders.
I feel like I have a much better handle on what a pop out is now. No more confusion for me during games! It is not so difficult,I think I can explain it to other people now.
