Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another deep dive into the world of sports and business! Today, I’ve been digging into something that’s always fascinated me: NFL merchandise. You know, jerseys, hats, the whole nine yards. Specifically, I wanted to figure out which team moves the most merch. It’s a big business, after all.
So, I started with what I always do, I hit the internet. I mean, where else do you go for this kind of information? I typed in some searches like “which NFL team sells the most merchandise” and “top-selling NFL team gear” and started scrolling through the results.
The first few things I saw were some articles talking about how the NFL is just rolling in dough, and team merchandise is a huge chunk of that. I found one from Forbes saying the Dallas Cowboys are like the kings of selling merchandise. I mean, it makes sense, right? They’re “America’s Team”, they have a massive fan base, and they are just popular.

But then, I started seeing some different information. Another article was listing the San Francisco 49ers at the top. That got me thinking, maybe things have changed recently? I kept digging.
I stumbled upon some data from Fanatics, and it looked like it was more up-to-date, from August of this year. And guess what? According to this, the 49ers were on top, followed by the Lions, Eagles, and Bears. That’s pretty interesting, especially with the Lions being so high up there. Maybe their recent success is really paying off.
I also found something about the Seattle Seahawks selling a ton of merchandise each year, along with the Broncos, the 49ers, and of course, the Cowboys again. Seems like those teams are consistently popular, no matter what.
To get a better picture, I looked at some data from March 1st to May 31st, which was apparently the first list of the season. It tracked sales of officially licensed player merchandise. This helped me see who the big individual players were in terms of merchandise sales.
Then I really got into the weeds and started looking at search volumes. One study I found said that the “’49ers jersey” is the most searched item of NFL merchandise in the U.S. That’s some serious demand! The Cowboys were second, which again, makes sense. I was also able to see the value of NFL teams. The Cowboys topped this list as well with a 10.1 billion U.S. dollar valuation! But, they haven’t translated that into championship wins recently, which is interesting. I also noticed that the last team to be sold was the Washington Commanders. It made me think about how valuable these teams are.
So, what’s the conclusion here? Well, it looks like the 49ers and the Cowboys are the big dogs when it comes to NFL merchandise. The 49ers might have the edge right now, based on the most recent data I found, but the Cowboys are always right there. It’s kind of a back-and-forth thing, it seems.

Here’s a quick rundown of what I found:
- Top Sellers (Recent): 49ers, Lions, Eagles, Bears (according to Fanatics data from August).
- Consistently Popular: Seahawks, Broncos, 49ers, Cowboys.
- Most Searched: ’49ers jersey is the most frequently searched item in the U.S.
- Most Valuable: Dallas Cowboys, valued at over $10 billion!
It’s cool to see how this stuff changes over time and how on-field success can impact sales. One thing’s for sure, though: NFL merchandise is a massive business, and these teams are making a killing. Anyway, that’s all for now. Let me know what you think in the comments, and I’ll catch you all in the next one!
