Okay, so I’ve been messing around with F1 23, trying to get the hang of driving without ABS. It’s a whole different ball game, let me tell you. I figured I’d share my little adventure, what I did, and how it’s been going.
Getting Started
First off, I jumped into the game and turned off the ABS assist. You can find it in the assists settings. It felt weird at first, like I had bricks tied to my feet instead of pedals. But I knew this was the first step.
Practice Makes Perfect
I spent a lot of time in Time Trial mode. Just me, the track, and a whole lot of frustration. I started slow, really focusing on how the car felt when I braked. I tried to feel that sweet spot right before the wheels locked up.

- Braking Early: I found myself braking way earlier than I used to. It’s like, you see the corner coming, and your brain has to recalibrate when to hit the brakes.
- Gentle Pressure: It’s not about stomping on the pedal anymore. I had to ease into it, applying pressure gradually. It felt like I was trying to crack an egg without smashing it.
- Listening to the Tires: The sound in this game is actually pretty helpful. You can hear when the tires are about to lock up. It’s like they’re screaming at you, “Too much, too much!”
Trial and Error
Man, did I spin out a lot. And I mean, a lot. Sometimes it felt like I was doing more 360s than actual laps. But each time I spun out, I tried to figure out what I did wrong. Was I braking too late? Too hard? It was a process of elimination, I had to do those things to know how I can avoid it.
Adjusting My Style
I started to adjust my driving style. I learned to brake in a straight line as much as possible. If I had to brake while turning, it was even more delicate. I also started to understand the importance of weight transfer. You know, how the car shifts when you brake or accelerate. It makes a big difference when you’re trying not to lock up.
Getting the Hang of It
Slowly but surely, I started to get the hang of it. I was still slower than when I had ABS on, but I could feel myself improving. My lap times started to come down, and I wasn’t spinning out as much. The car is more responsive.
Still Learning
I’m still learning, that’s for sure. There are days when I feel like I’ve got it, and then there are days when I’m back to square one. But that’s part of the fun, right? It’s a challenge, and it’s making me a better driver in the game. I also played with traction control to make the car control easier.
So yeah, that’s my journey with driving without ABS in F1 23 so far. It’s tough, but it’s rewarding. If you’re thinking about trying it, be prepared for a challenge. But stick with it, and you might just surprise yourself.
