Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online about whether the NBA is losing its mojo, its popularity. I got curious, so I decided to dig in and see what’s really going on. Here’s how I went about it.
My Little Investigation
First, I jumped onto Google. I mean, where else do you start? I typed in stuff like “NBA viewership trends,” “NBA ratings decline,” and “is the NBA losing popularity.” I wanted to get a general feel for the conversation.
I spent a good chunk of time just reading articles, forum discussions, and social media posts. I was looking for both hard data (like TV ratings) and people’s opinions. I was swimming in info!

Next, I checked out some of the major sports websites. I wanted to see how they were covering the NBA compared to, say, a few years ago. Were they still giving it prime real estate? Were the articles as frequent? Were the headlines as hyped?
- I also looked at social media engagement. I scrolled through Twitter (X), Instagram, and even TikTok, looking at NBA-related posts, hashtags, and comments.
- How many likes and comments per post?
- I compared the buzz around the NBA to other major sports leagues like the NFL and the English Premier League.
Then, I tried to put it all together. I wanted to see if there were any clear patterns. Was there a consistent drop in viewership? Was social media engagement down? Were people just complaining more, or was there something real behind it?
It’s tough to say definitively, one issue might be all the options people have these days. There are so many other things competing for our attention, not just other sports, but also streaming services, video games, and social media, this could be taking a big affect.
