So, I had this crazy idea to take my baseball bats on a trip with me. I mean, why not, right? I’m a huge baseball fan, and I figured it would be awesome to play some ball wherever I went. But let me tell you, it was way more complicated than I thought it would be.
First, I had to figure out how to even get these things on a plane. I went online and did a ton of searching. It’s confusing! I saw stuff about travel being expensive and something about a “Traveloka Sdn Bhd” in Kuala Lumpur, but honestly, it was all over the place. I did learn that people aren’t born knowing how to travel with weird stuff. That made me feel a bit better.
I decided to just call the airline directly. I fly Etihad sometimes because I like the places they go, like Europe and Asia, so I called them up. After waiting on hold for like, forever, I finally got a real person. They told me I could check the bats in, but they had to be in a special case. And of course, it would cost extra. Ugh.

Finding a Case
Next, I had to find a case that would work. I went to a bunch of sporting goods stores, but no luck. Most of the cases were either too small or way too flimsy. I didn’t want my bats getting all banged up. Finally, I found this one online store that had a hard-shell case that looked pretty good. It was a little pricey, but I figured it was worth it to protect my precious bats.
Packing the Bats
- Wrap ’em up: I wrapped each bat in bubble wrap, just to be safe.
- Fit them in: They barely fit in the case, but I managed to squeeze them in.
- Pad it out: I stuffed some extra clothes around the bats to keep them from moving around too much.
At the Airport
Getting through security was a whole other adventure. I had to explain to the TSA agent like five times what was in the case. He looked at me like I was crazy, but eventually, he let me through. Then, when I went to check my bag, the lady at the counter gave me this weird look and asked if I was a professional baseball player. I just laughed and said, “Nah, just a big fan.” She charged me the extra baggage fee, and off I went.
When I finally got to my destination, I was so relieved to see that my bats had made it in one piece. I ended up playing some pickup games with some locals, and it was totally worth all the hassle. I mean, it wasn’t easy, but hey, I got to play baseball in a new place, and that’s pretty cool. Plus, I learned that you can earn some points and exchange them for stuff, maybe I will try that next time.
So, yeah, that’s my story about traveling with baseball bats. It was a pain, but I’m glad I did it. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, just be prepared for some extra work and some confused looks. But hey, life’s an adventure, right?
