Okay, so I was messing around with my old F1 cars today, trying to see if I could swap out some parts. Specifically, I wanted to know if the viewfinders on these things are interchangeable. You know, just for fun, and maybe to make one of them look a bit cooler.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my two F1s – an old beat-up one and a newer one that’s in pretty good shape. I laid them out on my workbench and started poking around.
The Experiment Begins
- Removed the viewfinders: This was easier said than done. There were a couple of tiny screws on each one, and I had to be super careful not to strip them. I used my smallest screwdriver and went slow.
- Compared them: Once I got them off, I put the viewfinders side-by-side. They looked almost identical, but there were some minor differences in the way they were built.
- Tried to swap: I tried to fit the newer viewfinder onto the older body, and it kind of worked. It slid into place, but it didn’t feel quite right. It was a bit loose, and I was worried it might fall off.
- Reversed it: Then, I tried the other way around, putting the older viewfinder on the newer body. Same issue – it fit, but it wasn’t snug.
What I Found Out
So, here’s the deal: the viewfinders are kind of interchangeable, but not really. They’ll fit in the slot, but they won’t be secure. You might be able to make it work if you really wanted to, maybe with some tape or something, but it’s not going to be a perfect fit.

Final Thoughts
It was a fun little experiment, but I wouldn’t recommend trying to swap these things unless you’re really desperate. You’re better off just sticking with the viewfinder that came with your camera. I ended up putting everything back the way it was, and both cameras are still working fine. I guess I’ll just have to live with them the way they are!
