Well, you know, when you think about the University of Texas, you might think of all them Longhorns football players, but let me tell ya, they got some mighty fine basketball boys too. Yep, you heard me right. The University of Texas has been sendin’ a lot of young fellas to the NBA over the years. And I ain’t just talkin’ about a few, but a whole lot. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I’ve been around long enough to know when somethin’ good comes out of Texas, and trust me, these boys sure are somethin’ special.
Now, if we start with today, we got 11 of ’em from the University of Texas playin’ in the NBA as of the 2023-2024 season. That’s right, 11! A good handful of ’em are still runnin’ up and down them courts, tryin’ to make a name for themselves. You’ve got the likes of Jarrett Allen playin’ with Cleveland Cavaliers, and Jaxson Hayes, well, he’s out there with the Los Angeles Lakers. You got folks like Mohamed Bamba who’s doin’ his thing with Philadelphia 76ers, and don’t forget about Greg Brown III with the Dallas Mavericks. Some mighty fine players, I tell ya!
But, that ain’t all, there’s more! You got Kevin Durant, now ain’t that a name you know well? He’s over there with the Phoenix Suns. He’s been around, makin’ waves all over the league. Then there’s Cory Joseph, who’s part of the Golden State Warriors, and Sir’Jabari Rice with the San Antonio Spurs. Yep, all them boys comin’ from the same place. Ain’t that somethin’?

Now, you might be askin’, “What’s so special about the University of Texas?” Well, lemme tell ya, they’ve been puttin’ out some good basketball talent for years. In fact, when the NBA season opened up in 2023, Texas was right up there with the best, with 11 former players on rosters. Now, I don’t know much about them fancy stats and numbers, but I know that when you got that many players from one school in the NBA, somethin’’s goin’ right.
Back in the day, Texas was also one of the top schools when it came to producin’ NBA talent. They might not have as many players in the NBA as some other schools, but 14 players made the cut back in the 2021-2022 season. That’s nothin’ to sneeze at! So, whether you’re rootin’ for ‘em or not, there’s no denyin’ the University of Texas is makin’ its mark in the big leagues.
If we take a look back, you’ll find some big names on the list of former players too. There’s LaMarcus Aldridge, one of the biggest names to ever come from Texas, and don’t forget about Jay Arnette and even Timmy Allen who’ve made a name for themselves. Lots of good talent that went through them Longhorns doors. And every time one of ‘em makes it big in the NBA, folks from Texas sure do take pride in that.
It don’t matter whether you’re from the city or the country, when you see a Texas player out there on the court, it’s like seein’ a neighbor doin’ good. And let’s be honest, these boys bring somethin’ to the table. They work hard, play tough, and make the folks back home proud. If you don’t believe me, just watch ’em play! You’ll see the heart and soul of Texas in each and every one of ‘em.
So, if you ever wonderin’ how many players from the University of Texas are playin’ in the NBA, just remember: the Longhorns got more than a few names you should know. They got themselves a good handful of ballers, and I reckon they’ll keep bringin’ ’em in year after year. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, y’all.
