Well now, if you ain’t heard of this boy Landon Stripling, let me tell ya somethin’. This young fella, he’s a real good ballplayer. He comes from a place called Winter Haven, though, don’t let the fancy name fool ya, he ain’t no city slicker. Born in 2004, this boy’s been a big fella from the start. I mean, he’s 6 foot tall and weighs around 200 pounds, and that’s a lotta muscle for a youngin’ like him.
Landon, bless his heart, he plays a few positions on the field. He’s what they call a designated hitter, and he also can play first base and third base. Now, I don’t know much about all them fancy baseball terms, but from what I understand, it means he’s got a good arm, and he knows how to swing that bat right good. And lemme tell ya, that boy can swing! He bats with his left hand, which is a little different than most folks, but it don’t seem to slow him down none. He throws with his right hand, which is probably why he can catch them fastballs like nobody’s business.
He started out at Texas Tech, now that’s a big ol’ school in Lubbock, Texas, and he sure made a name for himself there. His freshman year, he played in 33 games, and from what I hear, he was hittin’ that ball like a champ. But even though he did real well, he didn’t just jump straight into professional baseball. Nah, he decided to stick around a bit longer and play some more college ball. That’s right, this boy made the choice to stay and play for the team instead of signin’ with them pros. I reckon that shows some real dedication to the game.

Now, when I say he’s a bat-first second baseman, what I mean is, the boy likes to hit first and worry about the rest later. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, especially if you can hit like he does. He’s a strong hitter, and that’s a good thing to have on a team. I don’t care if you’re playin’ little league or the big leagues, a good hitter can make all the difference in the world.
But the thing with Landon is, he’s not just about the bat. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, too. He’s a smart player. Knows where to be at the right time, and knows how to make them good plays in the field. You don’t play 33 games without knowin’ a thing or two about the game, and this boy’s learned plenty, that’s for sure.
Now, Texas Tech, well they’ve been pretty proud of him. Every time I hear about the team, it sounds like they’re real happy with what he’s done. With the season comin’ up, folks are expectin’ him to really show what he’s got. And I reckon, from what I’ve seen, he’s gonna do just fine. His record and stats speak for themselves, and with how he’s been trainin’, it’s clear that this boy’s got a bright future ahead of him.
So, if you’re out there watchin’ some good ol’ baseball, and you happen to catch a game with Landon Stripling playin’, keep your eye on him. I’d bet good money he’s gonna do somethin’ mighty impressive on that field. After all, when you’ve got a big ol’ fella like him with a good head for the game, it’s bound to be somethin’ special.
It’s been a pleasure talkin’ about Landon. We’ll see what he does this season. I got a feelin’ it’s gonna be a good one!
