Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these NBA games. Folks keep askin’, “are NBA games fixed?” You know, like, is someone pullin’ the strings behind the scenes? I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I got eyes and ears, and I can tell ya what I see and hear.
First off, they got all these rules and regulations, more than you can shake a stick at. I heard tell games are 48 minutes long, four quarters, 12 minutes each. But then they got timeouts and fouls and all sorts of stoppages. Makes your head spin, it does. And sometimes games get postponed or cancelled for all sorts of reasons – bad weather, court problems, who knows what else. Seems kinda fishy sometimes, doesn’t it?
Now, I watch these games on TV, and I see plenty of folks doin’ the same. Millions of ’em, they say. ABC, ESPN, TNT, they all show these games. But then I hear some folks sayin’ the viewership is goin’ down a bit. Maybe folks are startin’ to wonder the same thing I am – is this all on the up and up?

Then there’s this talk about “back-to-backs.” That’s when teams play two games in a row, I guess. They say they’re doin’ it more now, somethin’ about a tournament or somethin’. But it just makes me wonder if they’re pushin’ these fellas too hard, makin’ ’em tired, makin’ it easier for… well, you know… things to happen.
And let’s not forget the referees. Them fellas with the whistles. They can sure change the whole game with a single call. I heard stories, whispers mostly, about referees makin’ bad calls, maybe even on purpose. One fella, Tim Donaghy, somethin’ like that, got caught fixin’ games a while back. Made a big stink, it did. And even that big fella, Shaquille O’Neal, he said somethin’ about games bein’ fixed. Now, if Shaq says it, you gotta wonder, don’t ya?
- They got too many rules, makes it easy to hide things.
- Lots of money involved, makes people do crazy things.
- Referees got too much power, can change the game whenever they want.
I ain’t sayin’ every game is fixed, mind you. But when you see these fellas makin’ millions, and the TV folks makin’ even more, you gotta wonder if there ain’t some funny business goin’ on. Back in the day, they say only the finals were on TV. Now it’s all over the place, and folks are makin’ a fortune. Maybe that’s got somethin’ to do with it.
And another thing, these big market teams, they always seem to get the good calls, the good players. Is that just luck? Or is somethin’ else goin’ on? I don’t know for sure, but it makes you think, it really does.
So, are NBA games fixed? I can’t say for sure, but there’s enough smoke to make me think there might be a fire somewhere. Too many rules, too much money, too many questionable calls. It just doesn’t always feel right, you know? Maybe I’m just an old woman who don’t know nothin’, but I reckon there’s more to these games than meets the eye. Makes you wonder if it ain’t all just a big show, put on for our entertainment, and for some folks to line their pockets.
And them whistles, they can make or break a game, a series, even a whole championship. It ain’t right when a single whistle can change everything. Something’s gotta be done, or people are gonna lose trust in the whole shebang.

Anyway, that’s just my two cents. Take it or leave it. But keep your eyes open, folks, and don’t believe everything you see.
