Well, I heard from the folks down at the store that there’s somethin’ real excitin’ goin’ on in Hagerstown! A new baseball stadium’s bein’ built right in the heart of the city, over on West Baltimore Street and Summit Avenue. You might be wonderin’, “Why’s this so special?” Well, lemme tell ya, it’s somethin’ Hagerstown’s been waitin’ for a long time now.
Ya see, baseball’s been a big part of Hagerstown for over a hundred years. I remember my daddy talkin’ ’bout the teams that came to town back when he was a young feller. For most of that time, we had the Hagerstown Suns playin’ at the old stadium. But back in 2019, the team packed up and left, and folks around here sure missed ’em. There was a big gap for a few years, and let me tell ya, the city sure felt empty without a ballgame to go to on a nice warm evening.
Now, don’t go thinkin’ that this new stadium is just some run-of-the-mill ballpark. Oh no, this one’s gonna be somethin’ special. They say it’s gonna be a state-of-the-art facility, with all kinds of fancy stuff I don’t really understand. But I know it’s gonna seat over 3,000 folks, which means a whole lot of neighbors will be able to get out and enjoy a game without havin’ to travel far. It’ll be just like the old days, when everyone would gather up and cheer for the home team.

The state of Maryland’s even given the go-ahead for the new ballpark, with the Maryland Stadium Authority leadin’ the way. The best part is, this new ballpark’s gonna be leased by an Atlantic League team, so we’re gonna have professional baseball back in Hagerstown after all these years! It’s a real big deal for the city, and folks are already gettin’ excited ’bout what’s comin’ down the pipeline.
Now, I remember the old stadium real well. Built way back in 1930, it had a real old-time feel to it. I think they put it up in just six weeks! Back then, it could hold about 4,600 people. That was plenty for the games, and you’d always see folks from around the county comin’ down to watch. It wasn’t the fanciest place, but it sure had a lot of charm. Sadly, that old stadium got torn down in the spring of 2022. It was time for a new chapter, they said. And that’s where this new stadium comes in.
For those who might be wonderin’, the Hagerstown Suns aren’t around no more. In fact, the Suns folded back in 2020, after over 40 years of playin’ baseball here. But even though the Suns are gone, the spirit of baseball’s still alive, and with this new stadium, it looks like we’re gonna get that spirit back. The new team that’ll be playin’ there, they say, is gonna bring a lot of fun and excitement to the city. The games, the food, the crowds—all of it’ll make for a real good time. Hagerstown’s gonna feel alive again, and that’s somethin’ I’m lookin’ forward to!
So, if you’ve been missin’ a good ol’ baseball game like I have, you might wanna keep your eye on Hagerstown. That new stadium’s comin’ together faster than you can say “play ball!” And when it’s ready, you can bet there’ll be plenty of folks from all around ready to fill those seats and cheer on the new team. It’s gonna be a real treat for the whole town.
