Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here little league baseball season. Folks always askin’, “When does it start?” Like it’s some big secret or somethin’. It ain’t rocket science, y’know.
Usually, this here baseball stuff kicks off in the spring. Yeah, around springtime. Some folks say March, some say April. I reckon it depends on where you’re at and how the weather’s doin’. Can’t be playin’ ball in the snow, can ya?
Now, my grandson, he plays. Cute little fella, always runnin’ around. He told me they start practicin’ a bit before the games start. Gets them all warmed up and ready to go, like a good ol’ pot of coffee on a cold mornin’. Gotta get them muscles movin’, I guess. Kids these days, they got it all figured out, seems like.
- Practices usually start a few weeks before the games.
- Games mostly start in Spring, maybe March or April, depends on the weather.
- Season goes on for a few months, maybe till May or June. Some older kids play longer, like into July.
So, you get your practices in, then the games start. They play for a good while, a few months at least. My grandson says they go on till May, sometimes even June. And them older kids, the bigger ones, they play even longer, sometimes right into July. Hot out there, but them kids don’t seem to mind much. Just swattin’ at flies and hittin’ home runs, or somethin’ like that.
Now, there’s this thing called the “Little League World Series.” Sounds real fancy, don’t it? My grandson ain’t there yet, but he’s hopin’ to be someday. They say California wins a lot. Guess them California kids are pretty good at hittin’ that ball. But my grandson, he’s gettin’ better all the time. He can hit the ball pretty far, that boy can. Makes this old lady proud, I tell ya.
And the games, they ain’t short neither. They go on for six innings, sometimes longer if they need to. And they got this time limit, like an hour and forty-five minutes. But if they gotta play longer to finish the game right, they do it. Umpires make the call, they say. Fair is fair, I reckon.
Easter time, they take a break. A whole week off, my grandson tells me. Good for them, I say. Kids need a break now and then. Runnin’ around all that time, swingin’ bats, it’ll wear ya out, even if you’re young and full of energy. Even this old lady needs a break from watchin’ them sometimes! They’re like little whirlwinds, them kids.
If you really wanna know the exact dates and all that fancy stuff, they got these calendars. Official little league calendars, they call ’em. You can find ’em online, I hear. Or maybe ask someone who knows about these things. I just know when my grandson’s gotta be at the field, and that’s good enough for me.
So there ya have it. Little league baseball season starts in the spring, goes on for a few months, and them kids have a whole lot of fun. That’s what matters, ain’t it? Kids playin’, havin’ a good time, and maybe hittin’ a home run or two. And this old lady gets to watch and cheer them on. Not a bad deal, if you ask me.
And don’t forget, it’s all about teamwork and sportsmanship, or whatever they call it. Bein’ nice to each other, even when you lose. That’s what my grandson’s coach says, anyways. Good advice, I reckon, for kids and grown-ups alike.
