Alright, so you wanna know about this Boo Buie fella and if he’s gonna make it to the NBA, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I heard, and I’ll try to make sense of it all, even though these basketball things get kinda complicated for an old lady like me.
First off, they call him Boo, but his real name is somethin’ fancy, Daniel Richard somethin’ or other. Daniel Richard Buie, that’s it. Sounds like a good, strong name, the kind my grandpappy woulda liked. Anyways, they been callin’ him Boo since he was just a little tyke, and the name stuck, just like mud on boots after a rain.
Now, this Boo, he plays basketball, and he’s pretty darn good at it, from what I gather. They say he was a real star at that Northwestern college place, scored more points than anyone else ever did. That’s a big deal, like gettin’ the biggest pumpkin at the county fair, ya know?

- He was gonna try for the NBA last year, 2023, but then he changed his mind and went back to college for another year. Guess he wanted to learn more, like ripenin’ on the vine a bit longer before gettin’ picked.
- Then this year, 2024, he tried again for the NBA draft, but seems like no teams picked him right off the bat. That’s what they call “undrafted,” like a stray dog nobody wants to take home at first.
But don’t go feelin’ sorry for him yet, ’cause things worked out alright. He went and played in somethin’ called the Summer League with the Phoenix Suns. Sounds hot, like workin’ in the fields in July. After that, the New York Knicks, a team from the big city, they saw somethin’ in him.
Now, they didn’t give him a full-on contract, not yet anyway. It’s what they call a “two-way contract.” That means he’ll play some games with the Knicks, the main team, and some games with their other team, the Westchester Knicks. It’s like havin’ two jobs, one in the fancy store downtown and one at the feed store on the edge of town.
He’s 24 years old, this Boo Buie, and they say he’s 6 foot 2 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. Not a giant, but not a shrimp either, kinda like a good, sturdy fence post. He’s a guard, which I guess means he does a lot of runnin’ and dribblin’ the ball. Prob’ly needs good shoes for all that.
So, is he gonna make it big in the NBA? Well, that’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it? It’s like plantin’ seeds, ya never know for sure what’ll grow. He’s got his foot in the door, that’s for sure. He’s got a chance to show them what he can do. He’ll have to work hard, be tough, and maybe get a little lucky, like findin’ a four-leaf clover in the pasture.
It’s a tough road, the NBA. Lots of fellas try, but only a few make it to the top. But this Boo Buie, he seems like a determined fella. He went back to college when he coulda just quit, and he kept tryin’ even when he wasn’t drafted. That tells me he’s got grit, like an old rooster that won’t back down from a fight.
So, keep an eye out for Boo Buie. He might just surprise ya. He might just become a star. Or he might just be a good player who has a decent career. Either way, he’s got a chance, and that’s all anyone can ask for. Just gotta wait and see how it all shakes out, like waitin’ for the butter to churn.

And that’s all I know about it, for now. Basketball, huh? It’s a whole different world from the one I know, but it’s kinda excitin’ all the same. Reminds me of watchin’ the chickens chase after grasshoppers in the yard – you never quite know who’s gonna win.
