Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get around to this for a while, and today I finally did it: figuring out the Hulk’s height and weight. Sounds kinda silly, maybe, but I was curious!
First, I tried to do some digging online. I figured, hey, Marvel’s gotta have some official stats, right?
Well, let me tell you, it’s a mess out there. One site says one thing, another says something completely different. It’s like nobody can agree on how big the big green guy really is.
So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Forget the internet – I’m going old school. I grabbed my stack of Hulk comics. Yep, the actual, physical comics.
I started flipping through them, looking for any panels where he’s standing next to a regular-sized character – you know, someone we do have solid stats for. Like, say, Iron Man, whose height I could get after some search.
Comparing and Guessing
- I found a few good ones where Hulk is towering over Iron Man. I already knew about Iron man’s Height.
- Then, I kinda just…eyeballed it. I held up a ruler to the page (don’t judge!), and did some rough estimations based on the proportions.
- I figured, okay, if Iron Man is this tall, and Hulk is, like, twice his height in this picture, then…
I repeated this process with a bunch of different comics, different artists, different eras – just to try and get a good average.
For the weight, that was even trickier. I mean, how do you weigh a fictional character made of pure rage and gamma radiation? Again, I went back to the comparison method.
I looked for panels where he’s lifting something heavy – a tank, a car, whatever. Then I tried to estimate the weight of that object, and figured Hulk’s gotta be at least that heavy, probably much more, to be able to toss it around like a toy.
My (Very) Rough Estimate
After all that, my totally unscientific, but surprisingly fun, conclusion? I’d put the Hulk at somewhere around 7 to 8 feet tall when he’s “normal” Hulk, and probably well over 1,000 pounds. Maybe even closer to 1,400. When He is more angry, I think he maybe 9 to 10 even 15 feet tall!
It’s not perfect, obviously. But hey, it was a fun little experiment! And it gave me an excuse to re-read some classic comics. Now, who wants to tackle the Thing’s rock density…?
