Man, I was curious the other day about something kinda random – what’s the absolute lowest scoring NBA game ever? I mean, we’re used to seeing teams rack up 100+ points, so I wanted to know the opposite. So, I started digging.
First, I just went straight to Google. Typed in something like, “lowest scoring NBA game.” Boom, right there at the top, the answer popped up.
My findings
Apparently, this game happened way back in 1950. It was the Fort Wayne Pistons (they’re the Detroit Pistons now) against the Minneapolis Lakers (who are now, you guessed it, the Los Angeles Lakers). I started to search for lowest scoring games, and got my answers immediately.

- I typed “lowest scoring NBA game ever” into Google.
- I immediately found relevant articles.
- I quickly learned about the Pistons vs. Lakers game.
The final score? 19-18. Can you believe that? 37 points TOTAL. I’ve seen individual players score more than that in a single quarter! I found a result mentioning the Fort Wayne Pistons playing the Minneapolis Lakers.
It’s crazy to think about how different the game was back then. I mean, no shot clock, way slower pace…it’s a whole different world. It makes you appreciate how much the game has evolved. This was something that I dug for.
So yeah, that’s my little deep dive into NBA history for the day. Next time I’m watching a high-scoring shootout, I’ll definitely remember that Pistons-Lakers game and how crazy low-scoring it was!
