Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this “Real Madrid” thing. Folks keep askin’ if they’re in the NBA. Now, I ain’t no fancy sports expert, but I know a thing or two from watchin’ the telly with my old man.
Real Madrid ain’t in the NBA, no sirree. See, NBA, that’s American basketball. Them fellas runnin’ up and down the court, slam dunkin’ and all that. Real Madrid, they play somethin’ called “basketball” too, but it’s a whole different kettle of fish.
They’re over in Europe, Spain to be exact. They play in somethin’ called the “Liga ACB” and the “EuroLeague.” Don’t ask me what them letters mean, I ain’t got a clue. But from what I hear, they’re mighty good at it. Real, real good. Like, the best in Europe, they say.

- They got a whole bunch of trophies, more than you can shake a stick at. League this, cup that. Heck, they even call ’em the “greatest basketball club in Europe.” That’s gotta mean somethin’, right?
- Now, I seen some fellas from Spain play in the NBA. There’s this one fella, Santi Aldama, they say he’s Spanish. But that don’t mean Real Madrid is in the NBA. It’s like sayin’ just ’cause I seen a fella from down the road drivin’ a Ford, that means everyone in town drives a Ford. Makes no sense, does it?
I reckon folks get confused ’cause there’s another Real Madrid, the one that plays football, or “soccer” as them Americans call it. They’re real famous too. But that’s a whole ‘nother story. We’re talkin’ basketball here, remember?
So, if you wanna watch Real Madrid play, you gotta look for them Euro games. ESPN, they show some of them games, I think. You’ll see them fellas playin’, but it ain’t the NBA. It’s a different game, different rules, different everything. Though, both games got that bouncy ball and hoops, so there’s that.
To make it plain and simple: Real Madrid = European Basketball. NBA = American Basketball. They ain’t the same thing. Got it?
Heck, even tryin’ to find information on them is a chore. You gotta go snoopin’ around on the internet, lookin’ for “Real Madrid Baloncesto.” That’s their fancy name, I guess. Sounds like a foreign language to me.
They been playin’ since way back in 1931. That’s a long time, even longer than I’ve been around, and that’s sayin’ somethin’! They’ve had plenty of time to get good, that’s for sure. And good they are. They keep winnin’ all them European championships. Must be doin’ somethin’ right, them fellas.
So next time someone asks ya if Real Madrid is in the NBA, you tell ‘em straight. “No, they ain’t! They’re over in Europe, playin’ their own brand of basketball, and they’re darn good at it!” That’ll shut ’em up. And if they keep pesterin’ ya, just tell ’em to go watch some ESPN and figure it out for themselves. That’s what I do.

Anyways, that’s the long and short of it. Real Madrid ain’t in the NBA. They’re a whole different ball game, literally. Now, if you’ll excuse me, my program’s comin’ on. And it ain’t basketball, that’s for sure. I prefer a good soap opera, myself.
