Alright, let’s talk about this car race tomorrow, the one them fellers are always yappin’ about. NASCAR, they call it. Sounds like a bunch of noisy cars to me, but folks seem to get all riled up about it.
Now, I ain’t no expert, mind you. I don’t know all them fancy terms and numbers they use. But I can tell ya what I heard from the TV and that feller on the radio. They was talkin’ about who’s gonna be startin’ up front tomorrow.
So, who’s leadin’ the pack? Well, seems like this feller, Martin Truex Jr., he’s gonna be up there in the front. They said it’s his last race as a full-timer, so I reckon he’s gonna try and make it a good one. Bless his heart, I hope he does well.

Then there’s this other feller, Ross Chastain. They said he got the pole position. Now, I ain’t sure what a pole is good for in a car race, unless maybe they’re usin’ it to hold up a tent or somethin’. But they say it means he’s startin’ first. So good for him, I guess. He must be a pretty fast driver.
- So we got Martin Truex Jr. up there.
- And that Ross Chastain feller too.
Now, they didn’t say who else is gonna be right behind them. There’s a whole bunch of ’em, you know. They got all sorts of names, like Kyle this and Denny that. Hard to keep track of ’em all, if you ask me. They all sound the same after a while.
They was talkin’ about where this race is gonna be too. Said somethin’ about Richmond Raceway. Sounds like a fancy place. Probably got lots of them bleachers for folks to sit and watch. And they said it’s a short track, only three-quarters of a mile. That means them cars will be goin’ ’round and ’round pretty fast, I reckon. Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it.
Then there’s another race, they mentioned, the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. They said it’s on Sunday, but I don’t rightly know if that’s the same race as the one with Martin and Ross. They sure do make things complicated, don’t they? But I guess if you’re into this racing stuff, you probably know all about it.
And they said somethin’ about a race in Watkins Glen. That Chastain feller was fast there, they said. Maybe that’s a different race altogether. Like I said, it’s hard to keep track of all these races. They got ’em all over the place, it seems.
Anyways, they said the race starts at six o’clock in the evenin’. That’s gonna be late, ain’t it? I’ll probably be in bed by then. But I know some folks will be glued to their TVs, watchin’ them cars go zoomin’ around. And then there’s that other race, the Straight Talk Wireless 400, they said that one’s startin’ around 1:30 in the afternoon, central time. I’m not sure when that one is, though. Too many races for this old gal to keep up.

So, to sum it all up: Truex and Chastain are up front. The race is in Richmond. And it’s gonna be loud. That’s about all I know. Don’t expect me to tell ya who’s gonna win, ‘cause I ain’t got a clue. I just hope them fellers drive safe and don’t get into too much trouble. And may the best man, or woman, I guess, win the race.
And don’t forget, there are other races too, like the one in Charlotte and that other one in Watkins Glen. They all have their own starting lineups, I’m sure, but I ain’t gonna try and remember all of that. My brain ain’t what it used to be, you know.
That’s all I got for ya. Hope it makes some sense. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make myself a cup of tea. All this talkin’ about car races has made me tired.
