Alright, so you wanna put in one of them fancy F1 brake lights, huh? I ain’t no mechanic, but I’ve seen my fair share of fixin’ things around the house, so listen up, and maybe you’ll figure it out.
First thing’s first, you gotta figure out where you wanna stick that light. Some folks like it right smack-dab in the middle of the bumper, others put it up higher near the regular brake light. Wherever you put it, make sure it’s outta the way and ain’t gonna get knocked off by nothin’. I seen some fellers puttin’ it behind the mesh, looks fancy, but sounds like a whole lotta work to me.
Now, this is important, so pay attention. You gotta find the wires for your regular brake light. This is where it gets tricky, ’cause every car is different. You might have to poke around a bit, maybe even take some stuff apart. But be careful, you don’t wanna go messin’ up somethin’ you can’t fix. Some cars have fancy blinking brake lights, you know, the ones that flash a bunch and then stay solid? You gotta figure out which wire does what.

- If you got a simple brake light, it’s probably just got two wires: one for power and one for ground.
- If it’s one of them fancy blinkin’ ones, well, good luck to ya, you might need more than just my advice for that.
Once you’ve found them brake light wires, you gotta connect the wires from your new F1 light. Now, I ain’t gonna tell you exactly how to do that, ’cause it depends on the light you got and the car you got. But most of the time, you gotta strip a little bit of the insulation off the wires and then twist ’em together or use some of them little connectors.
Make sure them wires are connected good and tight. You don’t want ’em comin’ loose and your fancy new light stoppin’ workin’. And for goodness sake, make sure you connect the right wires! You don’t wanna be hittin’ the brakes and havin’ your windshield wipers turn on instead. That’d be a real mess, wouldn’t it?
After you got the wires all connected, it’s time to test it out. Have someone step on the brake pedal while you watch the new light. If it lights up, then you done good! If it don’t light up, well, you gotta go back and figure out what went wrong. Maybe a wire came loose, or maybe you connected somethin’ wrong. Don’t worry, just keep tryin’, you’ll get it eventually.
Now, I heard some folks sayin’ these lights ain’t legal everywhere. I don’t know nothin’ about that, you gotta check your own local laws. I ain’t responsible if you get pulled over by the police. But if it ain’t legal, well, maybe you shouldn’t be doin’ it in the first place. Just sayin’.
And one more thing, some of them lights, they got different settings. You know, like steady light or blinkin’ light. You gotta read the instructions that came with your light to figure out how to change them settings. I ain’t got no time to be readin’ no fancy instructions for ya. You’re on your own for that one.
So, there you have it. That’s about all I know about puttin’ in one of them F1 brake lights. It ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t exactly easy neither. Just take your time, be careful, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck. And remember, if you ain’t sure about somethin’, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. You don’t wanna be messin’ up your car and then havin’ to pay a whole lot of money to get it fixed. That’d be a real pickle.
One last thing, before you start messing with any wires, make sure you disconnect the battery. You don’t want to go getting yourself electrocuted, now do you? Safety first, that’s what I always say. Good luck, and don’t you go blowin’ a fuse now!
