Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this Alabama State football coachin’ staff. Folks been talkin’ ’bout it, ya know? Heard it from my grandson, he’s always fiddlin’ with that phone of his, readin’ stuff ’bout sports and such.
Now, they got this fella, Eddie Robinson, Jr. They say he’s the head coach. Head honcho, I guess. Became the coach back in 2021, they tell me. November 26th, to be exact. Don’t rightly know what that means, but sounds important. They got an office over there on Jackson Street in Montgomery. 915 South Jackson Street, that’s what they say. Big place, I reckon.
He ain’t doin’ it all by hisself, though. Got a whole bunch of folks helpin’ him out. See, it takes a village to raise a child, and I guess it takes a whole heap of coaches to raise a football team. They got this Courtney Morgan fella, he’s a “Special Assistant” they call him. Don’t know what that means, but he helps the head coach, I guess. You wanna call him, the number is 205-348-3600. Write that down if ya need it.
- Then there’s Jeff Allen. He’s somethin’ called an “Associate Athletics Director”. Big title, huh? Sports somethin’ or other. His number is 205-348-3663, if you’re keepin’ track.
- And David Ballou, he’s a “Director”. Director of what? Don’t rightly know. These young folks and their fancy titles.
Now, I heard some talk ’bout some other coaches too. This wasn’t at Alabama State, mind you, but it was about Alabama football. Seems like they got a new head coach over there too, some fella named Kalen DeBoer. He just finished gettin’ all his coaches together. Hired a fella for the tight ends, name of Bryan Ellis, a fella for the offensive line, Chris Kapilovic, and another one for the outside linebackers, Christian Robinson. Lots of fellas doin’ lots of things, that’s for sure.
And speaking of Robinsons, I heard ’bout another one, John Robinson. He was a coach at USC, way out in California. They say he was real good and real popular. Passed away just recently, poor fella, in Baton Rouge. See, these coaches, they come and go. But the football, it keeps on goin’.
Anyway, back to Alabama State. It sounds like they got a good bunch of fellas over there, helpin’ those young boys play football. It takes a lot of work, you know? Gotta teach ’em how to run and throw and tackle. Gotta keep ’em outta trouble, too. Lord knows them young fellas can get into all sorts of mischief.
So, that’s what I know ’bout the Alabama State football coachin’ staff. Not much, maybe, but it’s somethin’. Just a bunch of fellas workin’ hard, tryin’ to win some football games. And that’s all right by me.
Remember now, this here is just what I heard tell. I ain’t no expert, just an old woman who hears things. But I reckon it’s mostly true. You wanna know more, you go ask them fellas yourself. Or better yet, go watch a game. That’ll tell ya more than I ever could.
