Well now, let me tell ya about this feller, Brock Wilken, who’s making quite the name for himself in baseball. I reckon he’s one of them new faces in the world of professional baseball, and folks been talking about him a lot lately. He got drafted in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Brewers, all the way up at pick 18. Big ol’ fella too, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing about 217 pounds. Ain’t no small man, I tell ya. They say he’s a real beast out there on the field.
Now, don’t go thinking he’s just one of them big guys who swing hard and don’t know what they’re doin’. No sir. This boy’s got himself a mighty fine swing. It’s smooth, like butter on a hot biscuit, and he knows how to get them hips turning just right to make that bat work. Word is, he’s got power. Right now, they’re sayin’ his power’s at about a 55, but if he keeps at it, I reckon it could go even higher. The scouts are sayin’ he’s got a good balance too, something you don’t always see in young fellers like him.
But let me tell you, it ain’t all about just hitting for power. Brock Wilken might not be the fastest runner out there—folks say he’s a bit on the slower side with a run grade of 30. But, he’s got other things workin’ for him. For one, he’s got himself a plus-plus arm, which means he can throw that ball like nobody’s business. Now, when it comes to his fielding, especially over at third base, well, he’s not exactly lighting the world on fire. His footwork could use some work, and his hands aren’t the most nimble, so some folks think he might just end up as a fringe-average defender out there. But he’s got that arm, and that’s somethin’ they can work with.

Speaking of third base, it seems like he’s a bit better than expected when it comes to movin’ around out there. He’s not what you’d call a fleet-footed feller, but he gets the job done when it comes to shufflin’ sideways and makin’ the right plays. Now, don’t go expectin’ him to steal bases or cover a ton of ground in the outfield. That ain’t his strong suit. But if he can clean up his defense, he could end up being a solid third baseman in the majors, even if he’s not the best in the game.
Wilken’s also got himself a reputation as a bit of a slugger. His bat speed’s quick, and when he connects with that ball, it can travel a long way. His bat speed is ranked at a solid 60, and with his swing mechanics, he should be able to keep hitin’ them long balls for years to come. But, as with all these young players, there’s still a lot of work ahead of him. He’s gotta stay consistent, and he’s gotta improve his fielding if he wants to make it big in the big leagues.
Folks been watchin’ him closely, and you’ll hear all sorts of talk. Some say he’s got all the tools to be a real star, but it’s gonna take time to see if he can put it all together. He’s been playin’ some in the Fall League, which is where scouts have had a chance to get a better look at him. I reckon we’ll be hearin’ more about him in the future, especially if he can keep hittin’ them dingers and sharpenin’ up his defense. But for now, he’s just another young prospect with a whole lot of potential, and the Brewers sure seem to be hopin’ he turns into something special.
So there ya have it, folks. Brock Wilken’s a big feller with a lot of power and a solid swing. He’s got some work to do on his defense, but don’t count him out just yet. The kid’s got potential, and with the right guidance, he could end up being a real player in this game of baseball. Ain’t no telling where he’ll end up, but I’m sure we’ll be seein’ more of him soon enough. Time will tell.
