Okay, so I saw this question online – “who is the worst kicker in the NFL?” – and I got curious. I mean, we always talk about the BEST, but who’s really struggling out there? I decided to do some digging, and, man, it was a bit of a rabbit hole.
My Deep Dive into Kicker Stats
First, I just started Googling. You know, “worst NFL kicker 2023,” “NFL kickers missed field goals,” stuff like that. I figured I’d find some articles or forums with people debating it. And I did! Lots of opinions, lots of names being thrown around. But I wanted something more concrete.
So, I started looking at actual stats. I went to some of the known NFL stats-focused sites. I figured that the most obvious stat to look at was field goal percentage, right? The lower the percentage, the worse the kicker. Makes sense.

I started jotting down names of kickers who had, let’s say, less-than-impressive percentages. I’m not gonna name names here, because, well, I’m not trying to call anyone out specifically. But there were a few guys who were consistently at the bottom of the list.
More Than Just Field Goals
But then I thought, “It can’t be just about field goals.” What about extra points? Those are pretty important, too. So I added that to my little research project. I started looking at missed extra points. And some of the guys who were okay on field goals were kinda shaky on extra points.
- Field Goal Percentage
- Extra Point Percentage
- Also considering the Kickoff distance average.
I even considered the game situation. Is the kicker missing mostly in the clutch? Or is it just kinda random? That also felt like something that I needed to consider, because, sometimes it is all about the timing.
My (Not So Scientific) Conclusion
After all this digging, what did I learn? Well, a few things:
- It’s hard to definitively say who’s the “worst.” There are lots of ways to measure a kicker’s performance.
- Consistency seems to be key. It is not just about making the long kicks, it is about making all the kicks.
- There’s probably a reason some of these guys are still in the league. Even the “worst” NFL kicker is still pretty darn good compared to, you know, me.
So, yeah, that was my little adventure into the world of NFL kicker stats. It wasn’t exactly scientific, but it was interesting. And it definitely made me appreciate how much pressure these guys are under!
