Okay, so I saw this question online – “has there ever been a black kicker in the NFL?” – and I got curious. I mean, I watch football, but I’ve never really thought about that specifically. So, I decided to do some digging.
My Little Research Project
First, I fired up Google. Just typed in the question, plain and simple. You know, see what the internet had to say about it.
The initial results were, well, a bit all over the place. Some forum posts, some random articles… nothing really concrete. So, I refined my search a bit. I added “current players” to the query, hoping to narrow things down.

Bingo! That seemed to do the trick. I started seeing some names pop up repeatedly.
- Brett Maher
- Caleb Sturgis
- And this guy, Justin Tucker, who apparently holds some kind of record!
I dug into each of those names a little more. I mainly just checked what teams they were on, you know, to see what the deal was. Turns out, Maher was with the Cowboys, Sturgis with the Eagles, and Tucker, the record-holder, was playing for the Ravens. I was amazed.
So, yeah, from what I can tell, the answer is a definite YES. There have been, and still are, black kickers in the NFL. Cool, huh? It’s always fun to learn something new!
