Okay, so, a few days ago, I was getting ready to watch some football, and I noticed something weird – there were two NFL games scheduled for Monday night. I was like, “What’s going on here?” I’m used to just one game on Monday nights, so this was new to me.
I started digging around to figure out what was up. It turns out, this isn’t the first time the NFL has done this. They’ve been scheduling doubleheaders on Monday nights for a few seasons now, off and on.
First, I checked the NFL schedule for the season. I saw that they had a few of these Monday night doubleheaders planned. And guess what? The first one was the Jaguars vs. Bills game.

- Looked up the deal with ESPN and Monday Night Football.
- Found out they renewed their contract in 2021.
- Realized the NFL can do this because, well, they just can.
Then I dove a bit deeper. The Green Bay Packers were also going to play against the New York Giants at the same time. Two games, same night. Pretty wild, right?
So, I kept reading. It’s all about giving us fans more football action. I learned that having two games on Monday night is kind of a way to pump up the excitement, especially in the middle of the season. I mean, who doesn’t want more football, especially when your team is playing?
Basically, after all this, I figured out it’s all about ESPN and the NFL wanting to give us fans a double dose of football. It’s not a regular thing, but when it happens, it’s like a bonus for us. And I’m not complaining!
My Two Cents
Honestly, I think it’s pretty cool. More football on a Monday night? Yes, please! It makes the start of the week a bit more exciting. Plus, if your team is playing in one of those games, it’s like an extra reason to look forward to Monday. And hey, the more football, the better, right? That’s my take on it, anyway.
