Well, let me tell ya, about this racin’ thing on Easter. You know, them fellas in them fast cars, they used to not race on Easter. For a long, long time, seems like nobody wanted to race on the day Jesus got up. But things change, don’t they? Just like how we got them fancy phones now, and them TVs that show everything.
So, somebody told me they’s gonna have a NASCAR race on Easter again this year. Third year in a row, they say. Can you believe it? Used to be, no racin’ on Easter. Folks went to church, had a big dinner, maybe hunted some eggs with the kids. Now, they’re gonna be zippin’ around that track, makin’ a whole lotta noise.
I heard tell that they raced on Easter way back when, before I was even born, probably. Then they stopped for a good long while, like fifty somethin’ years or so. Then, out of the blue, they started up again a couple years back. Heard it was somethin’ called the Bristol Dirt Race that got it all goin’ again on Easter. Don’t know much about dirt racin’, but if they’re racin’, they’re racin’, I guess.

- They say it’s gonna be on TV.
- Fox somethin’ or other, at 7 o’clock.
- If you wanna watch all that pre-race stuff, they got that too, startin’ at 5:30.
Now, me, I don’t know why they started racin’ on Easter again. Maybe they ran outta other days? Maybe folks just like watchin’ cars go fast, no matter the day? I tell ya, it’s a different world now. Things ain’t like they used to be. Back in my day, Easter was for family and for thankin’ the Lord. Now, it’s for fast cars and loud noises, too, I reckon.
But hey, if them fellas wanna race, and folks wanna watch ’em, I ain’t gonna stop ’em. It ain’t my place. I just hope they all drive safe and nobody gets hurt. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll say a little prayer before they start them engines. You know, just in case. Easter’s a special day, even if you’re goin’ 200 miles an hour.
It’s kinda funny, ain’t it? For years and years, no racin’ on Easter. Then, bam! They’re doin’ it again. Makes you wonder what they’ll come up with next. Maybe they’ll start havin’ racin’ on Christmas! Now, that’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it? Santa Claus in a race car, ho-ho-ho-in’ his way around the track. Well, I guess you never know these days.
But let’s get back to this Easter race. So, yeah, they’re gonna do it. Third time in a row. It’s on TV, so you don’t gotta go nowhere to see it. Just sit yourself down on the couch, turn on the TV, and watch them cars go ’round and ’round. And if you ain’t into racin’, well, you can always just watch somethin’ else. It’s a free country, last I checked.
I still think it’s a little strange, though. Easter and racin’. Just don’t seem to go together somehow. But like I said, things change. And who am I to judge? I’m just an old woman, sittin’ here, talkin’ about racin’ cars on Easter. Never thought I’d see the day, but here we are. So, if you’re a racin’ fan, I guess you’re in luck. You get to watch your cars go fast, even on Easter Sunday.
NASCAR Cup Series, they call it. Big deal, I guess. Lots of folks like it. Me, I’d rather be eatin’ ham and sweet potatoes, but to each their own, right? That’s what I always say. You do what makes you happy, long as you ain’t hurtin’ nobody. And if watchin’ cars race on Easter makes you happy, well, then you go right ahead and watch them cars race.

Just remember to say a little prayer, though. For them drivers, and for yourself, too. We all need a little prayer now and then, whether we’re racin’ cars or just sittin’ on the porch. That’s the truth, and you can take that to the bank.
