Alright, let’s gab about them big ol’ pass catchers in the NFL, yeah? Them fellas who go up and snag the ball outta the sky. We gonna figure out who’s the tallest of ’em all, the real beanpole of the bunch.
Now, I heard tell of this fella, Harold Carmichael. They say he was a giant, like 6 foot 8! Can you imagine? That’s taller than my old corn silo, I reckon. Folks say he played a long time ago, back in the 70s and 80s. They say he caught more balls and scored more touchdowns than anyone back then. Guess he was a real good one, that Carmichael.
Then there’s this other name I keep hearin’, Richard Sligh. Now, this fella, they say he was even taller! Seven foot tall! Can you believe it? Seven feet! That’s like a whole ‘nother person stacked on top of a regular man. I ain’t never seen a man that tall, not even at the county fair. But they say he played football too, though I ain’t sure how long or how good.

And there’s talk of some newer fellas too. Heard tell of a Dan Skipper, they say he’s 6 foot 10. That’s still mighty tall, taller than anyone I know around here. And someone mentioned a Johnson, saying he was the tallest not too long ago, in 2020 or so. Seems like there’s always some big fella tryin’ to catch them balls.
- Harold Carmichael: They say 6 foot 8, a real old-timer but a good one.
- Richard Sligh: Seven foot tall! Hard to believe, but that’s what they say.
- Dan Skipper: Heard he’s 6 foot 10, another big one.
- Johnson: Was the tallest not too long ago, I guess.
Now, I ain’t sure who’s the tallest right *this minute*. Seems like these young fellas keep growin’ taller and taller. But from what I hear, that Richard Sligh fella at 7 foot was the tallest to ever play. That’s just somethin’ else, ain’t it? Imagine tryin’ to tackle a man that big! You’d bounce right off him like a rubber ball.
They say these tall receivers, they got a real advantage. They can reach up and grab balls that shorter fellas can’t even touch. Makes sense, I guess. If you got longer arms, you can reach further. It’s like reachin’ for them high apples on the tree, the ones the little fellas can’t get to.
And they say some of these tall fellas, they get paid a whole heap of money. Heard tell of one fella, Jefferson I think his name was, gettin’ paid millions! Millions! Can you imagine? Enough money to buy all the land in this county, I bet. Guess catchin’ them footballs is serious business, huh?
Anyways, that’s what I know about them tall receivers. It’s a lot of names and numbers, I know. But the gist of it is, there’s been some mighty tall fellas playin’ football, and that Richard Sligh fella at 7 foot seems to be the tallest of ’em all. That’s what I hear, anyways.
So next time you’re watchin’ them fellas runnin’ around on the TV, pay attention to the tall ones. They’re the ones who can really go up and get them balls. And remember, that seven foot fella, Richard Sligh, he was the tallest of ’em all.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. Them hens been layin’ like crazy lately, and I need to gather up them eggs before they start gettin’ pecked.
