Alright, so you wanna know about this here racin’ thing, the what-cha-ma-call-it, the startin’ grid for the NASCAR race today, right? Okay, I’ll tell ya what I know, though I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’. It’s just cars goin’ ’round and ’round, far as I see it, but some folks get real worked up about who starts where.
Now, from what I hear, this startin’ grid, that’s just where them cars line up at the beginnin’. Like, who’s in front, who’s in the back, that kinda thing. It ain’t just random, no sirree. They gotta earn their spots, seems like. They do this qual-i-fyin’ thing, where they drive real fast all by themselves and the fastest one gets to be up front. That’s called the pole position, I think. Sounds fancy, huh?
So, for today’s race, I heard tell that a fella named Truex, yeah, that’s right, Truex, he’s up front. He’s number one, the big cheese, at least for startin’. Good for him, I guess. He’s retirin’ or somethin’, so maybe they let him start up front outta kindness. Who knows? These racin’ folks are a different breed, I tell ya.
- Then there’s this Logano fella. He’s up there too, near the front. They say he’s one of them championship fellas, so he must be pretty good.
- And Byron, he’s startin’ eighth, I think. Not too shabby, I reckon. Eighth ain’t bad, right? You can still win from there, I suppose.
- Oh, and there’s a Bell fella, Christopher Bell, drivin’ a Toyota. He’s up there too, startin’ first in one of them races, seems like. Lots of races, I guess. Hard to keep track of ’em all.
Now, the way I understand it, they got these different rows and whatnot. Row one, row two, and so on. And each row has a couple of cars, side by side. So, Truex and Logano, they’re in the front row, shoulder to shoulder, ready to go. Then comes the next row, and the next, all the way to the back. The further back you start, the harder it is to win, I imagine. Too much traffic, ya know?
They race in all sorts of places, too. Las Vegas, Atlanta, Charlotte, Phoenix…all over the darn country. And each track is different, I hear. Some are short, some are long, some are curvy, some are straight. Makes it hard to guess who’s gonna win, that’s for sure. But that’s what makes it excitin’, I guess. For some folks, anyway.
So, the startin’ grid, it’s just the order they start in. It’s important, sure, but it ain’t everything. A good driver can win from anywhere, or so they say. It all depends on how fast they drive, how good their car is, and a whole lot of luck, I reckon. And they got these TV things showin’ it all, so you can watch it all unfold, if you’re into that kinda thing.
They got times too, all these times. Seems like they time everything in racin’. How fast they go around, how long it takes ‘em to pit, all that stuff. Truex qualified with a good time to get that pole position. Logano was fast too. They all gotta be fast, that’s the whole point, ain’t it?
And they got this thing called the Cup Series, sounds fancy, huh? And this Quaker State 400, the Bank of America Roval 400, the Toyota/Save Mart 350, all sorts of names for these races. Makes my head spin, all these names and numbers. But it’s all just racin’, cars goin’ fast in a circle. And remember that it ain’t over ‘til it’s over. Anything can happen on the track.
