The Current Count: How Many White Running Backs Are in the NFL?

Alright, so ya wanna know how many white running backs there are in the NFL, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t a whole lot. You know, like, when you watch them football games on TV, most of them fellas runnin’ the ball are… well, they ain’t white. That’s just how it is, ain’t no big secret or nothin’.

I heard tell somewhere, maybe on the news or somethin’, that the NFL, that’s the football league, is mostly black fellas. Real mostly. And when it comes to them running backs, the fellas carryin’ the ball, it’s even more so. They said somethin’ about only, what was it, like 12 percent or so of them running backs being white fellas. That was a few years back, they said. Don’t rightly know if it’s changed much since.

Now, I ain’t sayin’ there ain’t any white running backs. There are a few, sure.
But it ain’t like it used to be, back in the old days, I reckon. They say some fella named Riggins, he was white, played a long time ago. He was good, real good, they say. Won some big games.
And another fella, Taylor his name was, even further back, he was a white running back too. Folks say he was the best there was for a while. But that was a long, long time ago.

Nowadays, it’s different. You see, the game’s changed, I guess. Them fellas are bigger, faster, stronger. And most of them that are runnin’ the ball, they just ain’t white. Don’t rightly know why that is, but that’s how it is. It ain’t bad or good, it just is.

The Current Count: How Many White Running Backs Are in the NFL?

I remember hearin’ ‘bout a fella, McCaffrey I think his name was. He’s a white fella, and he’s a runnin’ back. He’s pretty good, real quick and shifty. But there ain’t many like him, that’s for sure. You know, it’s kinda like lookin’ for a needle in a haystack sometimes, tryin’ to find a white running back on them football teams.

They got all sorts of lists online now, I hear. You can look up every player, what position they play, all that stuff. I wouldn’t know how to do it myself, all that computer stuff is too fancy for me. But my grandkid, he’s real good at it. He could probably find you a list of all the runnin’ backs, white or not.

So, if you really wanna know exactly how many white running backs are playin’ right now, you gotta go look it up. There ain’t that many, I can tell ya that much. Maybe a handful, if you’re lucky. But the important thing is, can they play football? That’s all that matters, right? Don’t matter if they’re white, black, or green for that matter. If they can run the ball and score touchdowns, that’s good enough for me.

But yeah, to answer your question plain and simple, there ain’t a whole heck of a lot of white running backs in the NFL these days. That’s just the way it is. Maybe things will change someday, maybe they won’t. Who knows? All I know is, I like watchin’ them fellas run, no matter what color they are.

This year, they say football is back, so I guess we’ll get to see who’s playing and who ain’t. They got these rankings and all, saying who the best runners are. But like I said, it don’t matter much to me what color they are, just as long as they’re good at what they do. And finding a white fella in that bunch, well, that’s just a little bit harder, that’s all.
