Alright, so you wanna be a tennis pro, huh? It ain’t gonna be easy, let me tell ya. First off, you gotta start young. Real young. Like, barely out of diapers young. These kids these days, they start hittin’ balls before they can even tie their own shoes.
Trainin’ like a crazy person, that’s what it takes. You gotta hit balls, run around like a chicken with its head cut off, and then hit some more balls. And then, guess what? More runnin’! It’s all day, every day. No time for goofin’ off or playin’ video games. You think those fancy tennis stars just woke up one day and were amazing? Heck no! They worked their tails off.
- Practice, practice, practice! That’s the name of the game.
- Gotta get yourself a good coach, someone who knows what they’re doin’.
- And don’t forget about gettin’ strong and stayin’ in shape. Gotta eat your veggies and all that good stuff.
Now, playin’ in tournaments, that’s a whole other story. You start small, you know, local tournaments, junior stuff. Gotta win those to move up. It’s like climbin’ a ladder, one rung at a time. You win some, you lose some. But you gotta learn from your losses, that’s the important part. Can’t go cryin’ in the corner every time you get beat. Dust yourself off and get back out there.

And then there’s the travelin’. These tennis players, they’re always on the go. One week they’re in New York, the next they’re in Paris. It’s a whirlwind, I tell ya. Must be tough on the family, always bein’ gone. But hey, that’s the life of a pro, I guess.
Gotta be tough, mentally tough, that is. Tennis ain’t just about hittin’ a ball. It’s about thinkin’ ahead, stayin’ calm under pressure, and not lettin’ your opponent get inside your head. It’s a battle out there, and you gotta be ready for it. If you get all worked up over every little point, you ain’t gonna last long.
And money, well, it takes money to make money, they say. Tennis ain’t cheap. You gotta pay for coaches, travel, equipment…it all adds up. So, unless you’re born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you gotta find sponsors or somethin’. Rich folks always have it easier, that’s just the way of the world.
Then there’s this USPTA thing I heard about. Sounds fancy, huh? They got these certificates and exams and stuff. Guess it shows you know what you’re doin’, if you wanna teach tennis, that is. They got levels, too. Level 1, Level 2… Sounds like a whole lot of rigmarole to me, but I guess it matters to some folks.
Becoming a pro? It’s a long, hard road. Years and years of hard work, dedication, and probably a whole lotta luck too. Not everyone makes it, that’s for sure. But if you got the talent and the drive, and you’re willin’ to put in the work, well, maybe you got a shot. Just remember, it ain’t all sunshine and roses. There’s gonna be setbacks and disappointments along the way. But if you really want it, you gotta keep fightin’ for it.
So, there you have it. My two cents on becomin’ a tennis pro. It ain’t gospel, but it’s the truth as I see it. Now, go out there and give it your best shot!
