Okay, so I’ve been getting really into college football lately, and I wanted to know, like, exactly when those top 25 rankings come out. You know, the ones everyone talks about. I had no idea, so I started digging.
My Quest for Ranking Knowledge
First, I just kinda Googled “college football rankings release.” That gave me a bunch of articles, but mostly from the previous season. Not super helpful for what’s happening now.
Then I remembered there are different polls, right? There’s the AP Poll, and the Coaches Poll…I think there’s even another one. I needed to figure out which one mattered most and when each of them happened.

So, I went back to searching and tried to be more specific. I typed in stuff like “AP Poll release schedule” and “Coaches Poll release time.” This was better! I started to get some actual dates and times.
What I Found Out
It turns out, it’s not as simple as one single day. It’s more like a, well, a rollout. Here’s the basic gist, from what I could gather:
- Preseason Polls: These come out sometime in August, before the season even starts. It’s all based on last year’s performance and who’s got good players coming back. It is all hype.
- Weekly Polls: Okay, this is what I really wanted. From what I understand, the first regular-season rankings will appear after the Week 1.
- AP Poll: This one seems to be the big one. It usually comes out on Sunday afternoons.
- Coaches Poll: This one also comes out on Sundays, usually a little bit after the AP Poll.
- End-of-Season Polls: These happen after all the bowl games, including the championship. They give the final ranking for the whole year.
I also learned that sometimes they announce them on TV, like on ESPN or something. I’m not sure I’ll catch those live, but I’ll definitely be refreshing the sports websites on Sunday afternoons!
So, yeah, that’s my little journey into the world of college football rankings. It’s more complicated than I thought, but now I feel like I’m in the know. Bring on the season!
