Okay, so I’ve been getting into boxing lately, and a lot of people have been asking me if it’s an expensive sport to get into. I decided to find out and document my journey.
First off, I joined a local boxing gym. I shopped around a bit, and the membership fees were all over the place. Some were as low as $50 a month, while others were upwards of $200. I ended up choosing one that was about $100 a month, which seemed pretty standard.
Next, I needed some gear. I bought a decent pair of boxing gloves, which set me back around $60. Hand wraps were another $10 or so. I already had workout clothes, but if you don’t, you’re gonna have to factor that in too. Let’s just say another $50 for some basic shorts and a couple of shirts.

- Membership: $100/month
- Gloves: $60
- Hand wraps: $10
- Workout clothes: $50 (give or take)
So far, the initial costs weren’t too crazy. But then there’s the optional stuff. I decided to get a mouthguard, which was like $20. If you plan on sparring, you’ll probably want headgear too, and that can range from $50 to over $100. I haven’t gotten that yet, but it’s on my list.
And of course, there’s personal training. If you want one-on-one coaching, that’s gonna cost extra. I saw prices ranging from $50 to $100 per session. I haven’t gone down that road yet, but it’s something to keep in mind.
My Personal Experience
Overall, I’d say boxing isn’t the cheapest sport, but it’s not the most expensive either. It really depends on how serious you want to get. If you’re just looking for a good workout, you can definitely keep the costs down. But if you want to compete or get really into it, the expenses can add up.
For me, I’m enjoying it so far, and I think the costs are worth it. I am 27 years old this year and I really love this sport. It’s a great way to stay in shape and relieve stress. Plus, it’s just plain fun to hit stuff. I mean, who doesn’t like that?
So there you have it, my take on the cost of boxing. Hope this helps!
