Alright, so you wanna watch them Illini boys play football, huh? It ain’t that hard, even this old woman can figure it out. Let me tell ya how.
First thing’s first, ya gotta know when they’re playin’. That’s the most important part, ain’t it? You can’t just turn on the TV and expect them to be there. Sometimes they play early in the mornin’, like 11 a.m., sometimes later. You gotta check the schedule. Where do you check? Well, I usually ask my grandson, that boy knows everything about computers and such. But if you ain’t got a grandson handy, try lookin’ online. Just type in somethin’ like “Illini football schedule” and see what pops up.
Now, once you know when they’re playin’, you gotta figure out where to watch it. This is where it gets a little tricky, but don’t you worry, I’ll explain it simple.

- Sometimes, the games are on what they call the “Big Ten Network”. That’s a TV channel. If you got cable, you might have it. If not, well, you might be outta luck on that one.
- But these days, they got all these newfangled ways to watch stuff. They got these things called “streaming services.” My grandson showed me one called “Fubo.” Said they got a “free trial,” whatever that means. Sounds like a good deal, though, if you just wanna watch one game.
- Another thing you could do, if you’re lucky enough, is to go to the game itself! I went once, it was a long time ago, it was a good fun. But that means you gotta get tickets and drive all the way to wherever they’re playin’. Sometimes it’s in Chicago, sometimes somewhere else. That “Wrigley Field” place in Chicago, they play there sometimes. Fancy place, that one. Or sometimes they play at that big college place, the “State Farm Center.” Big, big place.
So, let’s say you figured out the time and where to watch it. Let’s say it’s on TV, on the Big Ten Network. You just turn on the TV, find that channel, and there you go! They usually have these fellas talkin’ about the game, explainin’ what’s happenin’. They call ‘em announcers, I think. One time, I heard this fella named Chris somethin’ or other, and another fella named Matt. They talk a lot, those two.
And if it’s on that Fubo thing? Well, my grandson says you gotta get the app on your phone or your TV, and then you can watch it there. He says it’s easy, but I don’t know. All that tech stuff makes my head spin. But he says you can watch it on your phone too if you have to. If you can see those little fellas running around on such a small screen, good for you.
Now, sometimes, they play against different teams. Sometimes it’s the “Northwestern Wildcats,” sometimes it’s the “Minnesota” team, sometimes it’s the “Rutgers Scarlet Knights.” I don’t know much about them, but my grandson says some are better than others. He always hollers at the TV when they play, gets all worked up. I just like watchin’ them boys run around and throw that ball. It’s excitin’.
And don’t forget, they play all through the season. Starts in the fall, goes on for a while. So, if you miss one game, don’t you worry, there’ll be another one. Just keep checkin’ that schedule. Ask your grandson, or look it up online. It ain’t that hard, even for an old woman like me.
So there you have it. That’s how you watch them Illini boys play football. Just figure out the time, the place, and turn on the TV or that Fubo thing. Or, you know, go to the game if you’re feelin’ adventurous. And don’t forget to cheer them on! Go Illini! Even this old lady knows how to do that!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about football has made me hungry. And maybe I’ll ask my grandson to show me how to use that Fubo thing again. Maybe this time I’ll understand it.
