Well, let me tell ya, them fellas, Stan Wawrinka and Luca Van Assche, they were smackin’ that fuzzy ball back and forth. Real good, they were.
Stan Wawrinka, ain’t he somethin’? That ol’ fella, been around the block a time or two. Seen him on the telly, whippin’ that ball like it owed him money. Big fella, strong arms. Makes the ball go zoom!
And then there’s this Luca Van Assche, young whippersnapper. Just a sprout compared to Wawrinka. But don’t you go thinkin’ he ain’t got no game. Quick on his feet, that one. Runs around like a chicken with its head cut off, gettin’ to every ball.
They played in somethin’ called the ATP Metz, or somethin’ like that. Sounded fancy. Probably some big city thing. All them fancy folks watchin’, I bet. Clappin’ and cheerin’ when them boys hit the ball just right.
- Stan whacks the ball hard.
- Luca runs real fast.
- Crowd goes wild.
Now, I ain’t no expert on this tennis stuff. But I know when folks are tryin’ their best. And them two, they were tryin’. Sweatin’ and gruntin’, runnin’ back and forth. Must be tirin’, all that runnin’ around. Makes me tired just watchin’ ’em.
Saw somethin’ about another match, in Banja Luka. Never heard of that place. But they played there too, these two fellas. Wawrinka and Van Assche. Must be rivals or somethin’. Like them folks on the soap operas, always fightin’ and makin’ up.
Head to head, they call it. Fancy words for seein’ who’s better. Who wins more, I guess. Don’t matter much to me. I just like watchin’ ’em play.
Wawrinka, he’s won a bunch of big things, they say. Majors, they call ’em. Big deals in tennis land. He’s got experience, that’s for sure. Knows all the tricks.
Van Assche, he’s still learnin’. But he’s got spunk. Doesn’t give up easy. Keeps fightin’, even when he’s losin’. That’s somethin’ you gotta admire.
Saw a replay of one of their matches. The Srpska Open. Another fancy name. They went at it, hammer and tongs. Wawrinka slammin’ the ball, Van Assche runnin’ it down. Back and forth, like a ping pong game.
Moselle Open, too. Round of 16. Sounds important. They played there in November. Must’ve been chilly. Them fellas runnin’ around, tryin’ to keep warm.
Stats and highlights, they talk about. Numbers and stuff. Who hit the ball harder, who ran faster. Doesn’t really matter to me. I just wanna see a good match. Two fellas tryin’ their best.
And that’s what you get with Wawrinka and Van Assche. A good match. Entertainin’, for sure. Even for an old gal like me who don’t know nothin’ about tennis.
